Q: What kind of experience does the child have to have to play?

A: We welcome and encourage children of all ages and skills to join us. We do not have a required experience to join our league.

 

Q: What equipment does my child need?

A: Your child will need a glove, a pair of baseball pants for practice, baseball plastic cleats, and a helmet. If you do not know much about bats, we recommend that you wait until you speak to your coach so he can advise you on what bat to purchase.
 

Q: What does the registration fee cover?

A: The registration fee covers the following:

  • A full uniform that includes 1 Pant 1 Jersey 1 Hat and 1 Belt

 

Q: What are the practice and game days for the divisions?

A: Typically, divisions have practice twice a week with game days being on Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays; depending on the division. The total commitment for games and practices is 4 days a week, which will include one day for batting practice. The 4U division commitment is only 3 times per week. All scheduling will be provided to you once the season starts either by coaches or via our SI Play app. We encourage everyone to visit our website www.wppobaseball.com as it is has the most up to date information on practice and game schedules.

Q: Where do we play games?

A: For divisions beginning with T-Ball all the way up to 10U (Mustang), all games are played at Pembroke Shores Park. However, if your child plays 12U (Bronco) and up, they may travel to other local parks as those divisions play inter league games.

 

Q: What is the non-resident impact fee?

A: The City of Pembroke Pines allows their residents to play in these programs and use the facilities with very little cost since they already pay taxes to keep these facilities running. If you are not a Pembroke Pines resident, then you do not pay taxes. This is their way of collecting some money to pay for the impact on the facilities. Please note, if you own a business in Pembroke Pines, your impact fee can also be waived if you can prove ownership. The city does check address by address to prove you’re a resident. So if you are not a resident, the city will charge our program and we will charge you.

 

Q: During the registration process, I am being asked for age verification for my child. How can I get this done?

A: Please scan and email info@wppobaseball.com a copy of your child’s birth certificate and we will override the limitation once verified.

 

Q: Can my child be moved up in age group?

A: Unfortunately, we cannot arbitrarily move players up or down. The league is governed by the Optimist program and the City of Pembroke Pines, who defines the rules on what divisions a child is placed on based on age.

 

Q: Can friends be placed on the same team?

A: We make an effort to accommodate requests for the same team in the age groups of 4U and 6U but we cannot guarantee it. The older divisions go through a selection process (a draft). In these divisions, the coaches can freeze 4 players and they have to draft the rest. This means that we do not accommodate any requests for same teams in those divisions.

 

Q: Does concession accept credit cards?

A: No, at this time we are not. However, we are looking into the future use of cards as we realize it makes it easier for everyone.

 

Q: Can my child play in the Cobras baseball travel program?

A: We encourage all our recreational players to work towards travel. However, the selection process for the travel program is based on the coaches individual need for players. Be on the lookout for tryout announcements for each of our travel divisions when slots become available.
